SMASH! 2012 Convention Impressions

"SMASH! or the Sydney Manga and Anime SHow! is one of the largest and most popular conventions in Australia for Anime enthusiasts, gamers and Otaku. In this article I hope to have given out my entire impressions of the event, as well as giving you at home a rundown of what it’s like to be a participant in one of the best conventions in Sydney. I would also like to point out that much of the day was a blur of fun and awesomeness, and that some event times may seem a little out of synch. I’ve done my best to place my experiences of the event in order." - Capsule Computers (Anime, Cosplay, Culture, Manga, SMASH!)

pretty good recap, looks like SMASH is a great event that everyone in Sydney should check out.

Looks like a pretty massive event. Just learned about a good anime convention here in Chicago that happened a few months ago, so need to keep an eye out for next year.

Hmmm. The list of exhibitors looks fairly small compared to, say, Supanova, but it's also a lot more focused on vendors associated with anime & manga. It's a pity this convention isn't up here in Queensland. I have a feeling that the Brisbane Supanova is (IIRC) Australia's largest geek convention by simple virtue that it doesn't have any competition up here to thin the crowds, whereas Sydney gets a much broader range of events.

But Supanova here in Syd is so poorly run, it just can not compare to SMASH! in any way.

I can't speak for the Sydney Supernova, but the Brisbane one I've always thought was very professionally run. Was a volunteer for it for a number of years right at the beginning, spent a few more years where I did work for some of the vendor booths, always seemed to be held together quite well.

I'll have to check out one year, it'll be nice to compare the two :)
