Leviathyn.com | Once a fan, Ron laments the fact that he can't find an Anime he can really get passionate about anymore.
Sorry thats impossible. That's like saying gaming is not exciting anymore
gaming has progressed while anime has become substantially worse and one sided. It just caters to one demographic and one alone. If you're not a fan of perverted anime with lolis and moe then you're out of luck.
What anime are you watching? Sure there are tons of shows out there that pander to people who like moe and ecchi shows, but aren't there just as many FPS games? Medal of Battleduty? Every season there are a number of serious and thoughtful anime with at least four or five this season alone. Sometimes you have to look around and ask the question if it is just you? In this case it is.
koga88 Couldn't have put that better myself.
"If you're not a fan of perverted anime with lolis and moe then you're out of luck. " i'm not a fan of those , and yet i'm more than fine , you guys are just being the stereotypical "everything was better in the past" jaded grampas we see in every field of entertainement . I come from an era where actually most anime series were kiddie crap , and when moe was flooding the marked only without the name and label . People only thought otherwise because mostly the hits , and the edgy and gory stuff were the ones being imported and were privy to some secret wealth of awesome anime .
Anime has its times with a big hitters, it started with Akira, then it was Dragon Ball, then Full Metal Alchemist [I think] and so on, I stopped caring years ago when fanatics were claiming Naruto = the Second Coming. Some big anime will appear at some point and the cycle will go on...
I don't think anyone can deny that there are...certain tropes and demographics that definitely get hit up WAY too often, but I actually just got through writing a similar comment about video games: you can't marginalize an entire medium by it's tropes. Sure, it's a little disheartening to see SO FRIGGIN MANY moe and ecchi series' being carelessly churned out for the sake of exploiting, um...that demographic, but as the folks above me have stated, there are still some great, thought-provoking or otherwise uniquely creative animes being produced these days as well. The fact of the matter is entertainment will ALWAYS be flooded with artistically bankrupt crap designed to coax some easy money out of people, but you can't let that stop you from seeking out the good stuff.
I've been watching anime for many years, but the last few (recent) have been more sub par/generic/cash grabs than interesting. The last breath of fresh air I've seen is probably Lupin the III: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna. One anime I'm currently watching, but frustrating as hell is Eureka Seven AO which is apparently a cash grab pandering to fans of the original. Just before this a sequel for Last Exile.... that was the same thing...
Sounds like he's just stuck in the past.
I still love anime. I was born after some of my favorite shows. I guess he is not trying a lot of different anime.
I do miss the old shows and I may not have found one to make me really get back into anime but I keep hoping.
I agree , most of the anime now is about moe girls and 1000000 school girls with one guy i miss the old days when i used to watch MATURE anime like (claymore, black lagoon, brust angel etc..) now we only stuck with shit like Dakara Boku wa and Yuru Yuri etc.. absolutely pathetic.
if the audience doesn't get a panty shot or bath scene then the anime will not sell and get cancelled.
This is almost a sad truth.
Yeah you are right i have to admit that if there is no nudity it wont sell good. Hell they even censor a lot of of anime just to use it as a sale tactic.
God yor right on the money, I hate when I watch an anime with 1 guy who has less sex appeal then a wet fish has the entire female school base after his pathetic ass. And when they flash a bit of boobage his nose bleeds out of control, it makes me just wanna blow my freaking brains out... What makes these animes so freaking lame is that when you see this crappy character, you think... It that was me ill screw their brains out... And i think thats what the creators wanted you to think all along, seeing that the leading male character is always some kind of stereo type loner or geek from the womb of his mothers basement with the craziest hairstyles EVER!
I guess you dont watch anime at all anymore because we still got mature anime. It's just its like maybe 1 or 2 person season. You talk about Dakara Boku but look at Burst Angel. LOL This season we got like 4 mature animes. Btooom, Zetsu no Tempest, Jormugand, and Jojo's adventure.
I still think it's exciting. Stuff like Steins;Gate and Robo;Notes is awesome. This season is the bomb (unlike last season)
You don't like sward art online?
I'm dl-ing it right now and I intend to watch it straight through when it finishes. I hear it's excellent.
I agree with the guy so some extent. Whereas Luffy & Ichigo cant even stand in the shadow of people such as Kenshin & Goku , I dont think theyre at all that bad. Its not really that anime is bad. Its just there so much junk that you have to really look for the good stuff - alrite I admit theres BARELY anything. IMO Kenshin stands on the front lines but Naruto is prettyy good once you get past the fillers and Fairy Tail has its moments. I would more say that anime isnt Fluent or constant but its still pretty decent.
Luffy is up there with Goku; but f**k Ichigo, bleach sucks.
how can luffy be up there with Goku ? The creativity of DBZ & storytelling far exeeds that of OP. Youre just as kid.
"Anime Isn't Exciting Anymore" Nah, you just dont see enoguh anime, or just cant accept changes. I agree that harem anime and ecchi anime are basically sh!t, and sadly that's what everyone sees. But there are still a lot of series worth watching almost every season. Sadly, most of'em are series nobody care about, or are faked by a moe design, like Hyouka. You just have to accept that, well. Things change. Get over it.
tbh if this author is looking for more diversity than he should look into reading more manga. There are tons of great manga that should really be animated. Right now (at least I think) a lot of moe and hardcore ecchi anime are becoming animated (though I don't really care about them, they seem to be popular) Though I think this author should really watch JoJo's Bizarre Adventure... this manga series has deserved it's own anime since the 80s. It's one of the new anime this season and it's from the 80s!
I've been an anime fan since I was a kid watching stuff like Ranma 1/2, Tekkaman Blade and Saint Seiya in the weekend mornings and now I can't stand anime anymore. Beside One Piece and a couple of mangas like Mightiest Disciple Kenichi and Reborn I don't watch nor read that much anime anymore. The industry went down the crapper when the moe obsession took off and now everything is moe combined with ecchi. =/ I really miss stuff like: Evangelion, Hellsing, Black Lagoon, Darker than Black, Berserk, Rahxephon, Zeta Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, etc. This is why I used to love anime! ;_; But now I found a new home with the interactive comics of DC and Marvel. =)
Have you watch Steins Gate or Fairy Tail
Your "really miss" list literally listed all my favorite anime (except Gundam.)
"Mightiest Disciple Kenichi" That manga is trouble/sucks, no wonder you stopped reading manga. Great anime is being released every year, they just go under the radar Hunter X Hunter(2011), UN-GO, Madoka, When They Cry Higurashi, etc...
People need to realise when they have become jaded.
we change, because were getting mature and old... so does our interest..
Nov. 13 we'll see the return of Hellsing Ultimate stateside. Anime will get substantially more exiting then. :)
The industry really has gone downhill hard, it's not the usual nostalgia effect here, for once. The internet has basically cut off the majority of revenue outside of Japan for the studios. That's why everything is Moe - because that's what the otakus in japan want, and they still pay.
Okay so there is a lot of moe going on with today's anime. Try seeing Fairy Tail, Steins Gate, Swords Art Online. Is not moe at all anime and Steins Gate is not based on high school teenagers thank god. Now this is a lolli, perverted anime but the story is really great and that is Listen to me girls I am not your father..................The point is there is still great anime out there.
I like obscure adult anime, the last few I saw were Baccano and Gantz. I just wish we had more like these. I do agree that Steins;Gate was awesome though, no school girls were present.
Fate stay/zero is another to bring up.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Hunter x Hunter That is all...
So this guy does not know about Sword art online?
Anime seen better days but there´s still great stuff out there maybe getting older doesnt help.
Purely subjective.... Everything ages to a point where you barely recognize the medium as it once was such as the case with movies, music, and video games. Or you look back thinking how these mediums were better 10 or 20 years ago. It doesn't mean though the medium itself is dead; because you can still find a hidden gem in there somewhere that will remind you why your a fan of that medium in the first place. That's all there is to it. If Mr.Ron can't find anything anime wise he can enjoy its his loss. I myself am behind a whole season of stuff to watch due to being too busy.
Maybe you just need to broaden your taste in Anime (no I do not mean accepting Harem, ecchi type Animes. God knows my eyes burn when I see those) but there have been good Slice of Life Animes that has come this year like Hyouka, Tari Tari, Boys on the Slope comes to mind. You can check out sequels of popular Animes as well. Eureka AO and Saint Seiya Omega. Anime adaptations of Manga series: Sword Art Online, Code:Breaker, BTOOOM. Lots of Animes out there, one of them will probably catch your fancy.
Yeah dats what i said i just got disagrees. I do hate Saint Seiya Omega though i aint going to lie.
You just stole my words. And like Simon says, I also hate SS Omega. Been having a hell of a time with Shirokuma Cafe lately, and the remake of Hunter x Hunter is pretty damn good.
Not sure if it was a mistake, but Sword Art Online is an adaptation of a light novel (like many anime are nowadays)
Ah I did not know that, I assumed it came from the Manga first since I saw a Manga version of it online.
I like the ones where one 'element' is added to an otherwise normal(ish) world. For example Natsume yuujinchou, Moyashimon, Baccano! ect. For some reason anime with unrealistic hair colors without reason are kinda hard for me to get into. lol
Moe is ruining anime but some good anime are still out there.
