Report: Teen Commits Suicide After Seeing His Favorite Naruto Character Die

Seeing an anime character die allegedly inspired a 14 year-old Russian boy to jump one hundred feet to his death, says a report.

According to Mail Online, Leonid Hmelev committed suicide after seeing his favorite character, Naruto character Itachi Uchiha, die in anime Naruto: Shippuden. The character’s death reportedly saddened the boy. (Anime, Naruto Shippuden)

Another inflammatory headline from Kotaku. Surprise, surprise.

People don't commit suicide over single events like that. One bad experience seldom warrants the taking of a life, of any life... this child had likely been suffering for a very, very long time, and in all this time no one paid him any attention or mind.

He found that only in death, used as an attention-grabbing headline in some pathetic attempt to stir up controversy, or at the very least hit-based ad revenue.

Disgusting. Disgusting and shameful. Kotaku is not responsible for this child's death, but the fact that they seek to profit from it is morally reprehensible.

I try to imagine what it's like to live where anime & manga are as common as usb ports... and just can't! I'm not sure what I'd do if an fictional character I grew up with suddenly died.

Wow this is embarsing... I geuss I jumped the gun there.

Imersion can do wonderful and terrible things... sometimes all at once.

Mentally unstable teen and I'm sure there were other contributing factors. Seriously, we found out he died a year ago and we all knew he was going to die years before that!

Some people just take things too far... also, has he been living under a rock? Itachi died ages ago.
