Is This a Zombie? Season One Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:

"Is This a Zombie? takes the well-known zombie theme and creates something unlike we’ve seen before by combining zombies, necromancers, vampire ninjas and even magical girls into a show that is wonderfully unpredictable and these unpredictable elements make Is This a Zombie? a brilliant and comedic romp. With great action sequences, a nice level of fan service and unique character backgrounds this zombie is certainly the freshest we’ve seen in a long time and definitely worth your time."

Good to hear that this is an amazing series still in English. I absolutely adored the original Japanese version of the show and I can't wait for this one to be released to stores in North America. It has everything I love and more, fan service, harem elements, action and plenty of comedy.

Shame that they didn't try to do anything different with Eu's note book though and simply provided basic subtitles for them, but I'm glad they kept with the multiple voice actresses for her whenever Aikawa has a delusion. Can't wait.

If I remember right, that is probably one of the tamest pictures of their Twister game in that episode. The show has a pretty high level of fan service with plenty of panty shots, though a few are troll shots of the male character when he is dressed as a magical girl.

There was sort of a joke about that in one of the OVA's where Eu writes on her notepad about how perverted this show is.

On paper it sounds like my sort of thing, but I don't know if I like it as a comedic story. Obviously I've never heard of it before, haha.

is there any site that does honest reviews about anime and not this blind fanboy stuff? I watched the first season and yeah it was fun for what it was but a 9.5/10 is a bit too much for this average anime. It was more like 6/10 at best. =/

Well you have to remember that reviews are opinions and considering how long this review was, it seems like the reviewer cared about the show a good bit and went on to talk about how they adapted some of the unique elements of the show in a proper way such as the way Eu's notes and voice were handled. Also the reviewer mentions that they have no issue with fan service which would probably be a sticking point for other reviewers. Plus it looks like the reviewer really enjoyed the show's sense of humor as they mentioned how they enjoyed the word play with the English dub and the various comedic scenes.

7/10 in my books, had quite a few awesome moments yet it's far from fantastic and the plot was bloody awful and detracted from the thing they were good at - the comedy. Not that the comedy was brilliant either, the joke spring running pretty dry towards the end, something that they struggled with in season 2.
