Anime vs Cartoon

Japanese animation, or anime is becoming increasingly popular in the West. People unfamiliar with the genre might call it cartoons - same as the animation produced in the US or Europe. Indeed, the word "anime" itself means simply animation, or cartoons, in Japanese. So why do fans insist on clear distinction between the Japanese anime and Western cartoons? (Anime)

As long as the story is great, I couldnt care how it looked.

Alot of Cartoon Network/DC Shows are just as good as Anime ones

I like both.
andrewer  +   774d ago
both. I grew up with Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Digimon, Pokemon, InuYasha...AND Justice League, Teen Titans, Jimmy Neutron, Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go, Kids Next Door... Anyways, they are different but both good. Although anime, IMO, has better stories, cartoons are awesome too and can't be ignored.

cartoons have some good shows like jimmy neutron, legend of korra, avatar the last airbender, anything DC makes, spectacular spiderman, samurai jack, megas xlr,etc... but those shows tend to get canceled and end on big cliffhangers and there arent many good shows like that nowadays save for the few i mentioned like korra, but anime has a lot of good shows that have a great mature, and deep/dark narrativeor they can be wacky but not feel kiddy perse,DBZ,naruto to an extent, one piece,yu yu hakusho, inuyasha, monster, ouran high host club,kenichietc..

Anime is just Japanese styled cartoons. So I guess cartoons win.

There's no right or wrong answer to the question of which is better because the target demographics for each vary from show to show. In the end it simply boils down to individual preference.

Hate all Japanese anime. Love Batman Animated Series style.

I agree, shows like Young justice and Tron TAS were amazing but were canceled.
Simon_Brezhnev  +   773d ago
I'm still pissed Young Justice was canceled. I heard it had the top rating on CN.

There is no difference between anime and cartoons. This article doesn't do a good job of differentiating the two since there are western cartoons out there has the conditions he is using to describe an anime. I believe Japanese anime is on a decline and moving away from the action genre in favor of slice of life, romantic comedy genres to lower production costs(THANK GOD FOR ATTACK ON TITAN). There are some western cartoons out there that are more enjoyable than most anime like Boondocks, Thundercats, megas xlr etc. The animated DC batman movie The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 & 2 is better than any anime movie to this date including the live action movie directed by Christopher Nolan.

What??? are you serious find for me please in the cartoon universe a character like L from Death Note or Gon from Hunter x Hunter, characters with depth... im not saying Superman, Batman etc are nothing i like them too but c'mon Cartoons are by far behind...
DivineHand125  +   774d ago
You are replying to points I never even made in my comment. Where in my comment did I say anything about anime characters. I Also fail to see what is see what you see in a character like Gon and I haven't seen death note since it aired on cartoon network so I can't really comment on L. I've seen hundreds of anime and quite a few western cartoons over the years so I believe that what I am saying is more valid than most that comment in ignorance. Go watch the some of the DC animated movies like Batman Under The Red Hood or The Dark Knight Returns part 1 & 2 and you will see that characters like the Joker is greater than the two characters you mentioned in your comment.

There is no VS here... Anime are by far better in every possible way...

anime is by far better but some cartoons are almost as good but dont quite make it. but if you want some live action stuff that looks like anime then american super hero movies are the best there is. superman is the closest thing you gonna get to dragonballz type action in live action form on the big screen. actually most anime rip off american comics and heroes. guarantee dragonball and z are rip offs of superman and one piece a rip off of x men etc.

I agree with you but you must understand something very real and serious... the way Hollywood treats the Anime/Japanese heroes it's all about a cultural attack do you really think they aren't able to produce a Dragon Ball movie in the same scale as Man Of Steel or batman? They just don't want cause they want to put their heroes on top... if Anime heroes take over the cartoon heroes what will happen with the heroes the Americans grow up believing it and admiring??? It's all about a culture protection... that's the way i see this subject...
