Black comedy from the dregs of society that somehow manages to be uplifting? What madness is this?
I ended up watching this a couple of months ago on a whim and loved it. I could certainly draw some parallels to the main character from my life, though not to nearly as extreme a level. In the end it somehow left me a weird mix of depressed and optimistic. One thing I haven't been able to stop doing is listening to the soundtrack, it's just so good.
After watching this you'll wish there was a Misaki in your life as well. It must be a conspiracy how good the English dub for this anime was. The only other anime that gave me the same vibe Welcome to the N.H.K. did was Arakawa Under the Bridge. Regarding the animation issues, I wonder if this guy has ever seen Aku no Hana... but I completely agree with on pricing, there simply isn't a reason not to get this box set apart from maybe holding out for a Blu-ray disk version which isn't likely to appear anytime soon.
