Top 5 Anime shows: Think you know anime? Think again!

Anime. Japan's gift to the west.

Anime is an abbreviation of the Japanese word animeeshon. As you have probably guessed, it refers to Japanese animation.
In recent years, anime has exploded in the west. With a lot of series being serialised, dubbed and subbed into English; the world of anime has became a lot more accessible. You can load up Amazon, type in anime and with a few clicks can have a box of anime DVDs making its way to your door.

Good list if comedy is what you are looking for. If you we're looking for a mature/Serious action anime I would make the list something like this.

Honorary Mention: Samurai Champloo

Honorary Mention: Phantom for the Phantom

5. Claymore

4. Hellsing Ultimate

3. Death Note

2. Black Lagoon

1. Cowboy Bebop

Hellsing Ultimate is an honorae mention.

Hmmm I don't know about this list.

HSoD kinda destroyed itself with it focusing 70% on the ecchi. Angel Beats was good but there was only one "sad" part and an unnatural amount of focus on characters other than the main without really progressing very far with them. It's siblings like Clannad or Kanon were much sadder although not as funny. K-On just didn't have any relevance to the "main" story they presented so... w/e.

If we're looking for comedy, in my opinion, Nichijou, Nichibros, MM, and even Kannagi top the list.

Before I start, people tend to tell me my opinion sucks

Welp, I've seen 4/5 on this list (no HotD because too much fanservice) and I only liked Angel Beats. K-On relies way to much on moe, Lucky Star's quality was too random (what's up with talking about 'how to eat a chocolate cornet' for like 10 minutes?), and Evangelion's protagonist was too annoying for me to get into it. Even Angel Beats had problems, the show was too short to get you invested in all it's characters. Key is remaking it as a visual novel and that should easily solve that problem though.

Using myanimelist as a source, I would say Mushi-Shi, Monster, Nichijou, Hellsing Ultimate, and Gankutsuou. They are all English shows (besides Nichijou) with under 100,000 viewers. Also according to MAL Angel Beats is the 9th most watched anime, at least with the 350,000+ people who have accounts there, and Evangelion is ranked #21.

I believe director Guillermo del Torro got his idea of the connection of man and mecha in his film " Pacific Rim " from a 70's hit mecha-anime called **Daimos - a humongous truck that turns into a fighting robot.

There loads of others like Voltes V, Mazinger Z, Grendaizer etc., with great story-telling and catchy intro/end credit soundtracks. Google it.
