What I Have To Say About The CNN “Manga Is Child Porn” Issue

“We found something far less innocent, in a place that caters to young people, a comic-book store. We’re shooting this story with hidden cameras to show you what’s being sold here [...] so graphic, so sexually explicit we turned our undercover cameras off, but everything for sale here is LEGAL.”

This is journalism at it’s finest: A well-researched and objective insight on manga and it’s questionable shenanigans. Not.

I saw the video two times and no where in there did the reporter say manga or anime is child porn. He was just calling out the ones that contained child porn and wondering how can that material continue being sold there.

The reason is because art is subjective. Just because you're drawing a character young doesn't mean they are necessarily young in the context of the story. It's impossible to police that content given how widespread it is.

It's the same way that video games and anime when localized for western audiences change the ages of female characters from 15 and 16 to 18 to avoid any regional issues.

just seemed like some of these journalist from the video wanted a holiday in tokyo so decided on this "business trip"

not really sure which side i agree with. some content does need to be toned down, yet there is the fredom of speech or whatever they called it.
