The testing, sadly, continues.

One of the best parts about Naruto as it moved along as a series is that it eventually got past all the testing stuff. There would be moments that tested our characters in their resolve and abilities, but exams fell by the wayside for the most part. Sadly, flashback material tends to take us back there every now and then and this anime original storyline is continuing that tradition. We’ve had some interesting material leading up to the start of the joint Chunin Exams, but as it got into the first phase of the exam itself in the previous episode, I could feel my interest cratering pretty hard with it. Seeing the group of varied individuals work together overall had its moments as they began figuring out the problem, but mostly it just reminded me of the worst aspects of shonen material like this.
