Mania.com writes: "In Summary:
Honestly, I would stick to the actual Haruhi light novels or the anime. With the light novels, the story and characters are centerpiece and your imagination gives them life. In the anime, they ARE given life and the frenetic chaos can be enjoyed and appreciated. With this manga adaption, you are stuck somewhere sadly between. The artwork takes away a large portion of your visual imagination but isn’t fluid enough to give real life like animation can. If future volumes can provide the kind of artwork necessary for the story to live within, I may return; otherwise this adaptation of an adaptation is dead on arrival."
