Help! My commutes are boring!

221d ago ... ["Fire, exclamation mark. Fire, exclamation mark. Help me, exclamation mark."] Sorry, I couldn't resist a bit of IT Crowd humor. But on a more serious note, I recently moved to Toronto. Along with moving to a new country, I was also introduced to public transportation (subways and street cars). Having gotten rid of the car before moving, I now have about 50 minutes on the bus/subway in the m...

Time of Eve Review

437d ago ... I came across Time of Eve thanks to the Kickstarter campaign that was recently funded for an international blu-ray release. The initial goal was $18,000 and would “…cover the production costs for the blu-ray, which included creating the blu-ray content itself (subtitling, creating the bonus material, package and art book design) and replication.” That goal was met within 24 hours and so a stret...

Anime North 2013 – A Look Back

489d ago ... Having skipped Anime North last year (2012), the itch quickly crept up and made itself present this year. That desire to be around cosplayers, artists, and lots, AND LOTS of merchandise up for sale. Oh, and all the food we ate this weekend as well. I knew I missed this atmosphere, but I didn’t think I would have missed it THIS much! Anime North technically began Thursday night for pre-regist...

What happens when we grow up?

543d ago ... First, let me state that I do not consider myself an otaku. I enjoy anime (subbed and dubbed (though I prefer a good dub)), manga, figurines, games, etc. I follow the culture enough to see as time goes on, change eventually happens. I remember when I eagerly awaited the next 3-4 episode DVD volume to come out back in the late 90's, early 2000's. I remember how they usually cost no less than $30...

Why should I buy DVD/Blu-ray when I can stream it?

606d ago ... Over the past few months I have begun to go through my anime collection of DVDs and Blu-rays. Admittedly I've gotten a lot of use out of my sets over the years. But with the advent of online streaming services such as Amazon, Netflix, FUNimation Elite, Crunchyroll, and Neon Alley, my sets now gather dust. It was by chance that I came across the trade-in value for Summer Wars on blu-ray at Amazo...

PROPOSAL: Ban [insert source here] for 1 month

1060d ago ... I'll be the first to admit that I'm just as guilty as everyone else when it comes to posting from the usual sources. This got me thinking (which doesn't happen often): what if we banned 2-3 of usual sources for 1 month (December, or perhaps January)? Really force everyone to seek out new sources, for just one month. I feel this would actually benefit the site as we're currently seeing the sa...

Cosplay Articles = Blog Only?

1138d ago ... A recent blog post showing off a Catherine/Katherine cosplay got me thinking...with the recent...fuss(?) regarding "sexy" cosplay, perhaps cosplay articles should be blog posts? This would remove any bickering about those submissions clogging up the news as well as people gaining (arguably) too much "heat" from said articles. If I could throw up a poll I would, but I can't so feel free to vo...

New Site Design = Awesome!

1170d ago ... I love the new design! Very subtle, but definitely a nice improvement, especially the background :D

Tentacle Monster from Anime North 2010

1186d ago ... I present to you... Tentacle Monster 2010! During the introductions for cosplay chess at Anime North 2010 this young lady was spotted. Quite the clever costume, especially the "censor" bar, if I do say so myself. She was a good sport and let me capture a couple of seconds of her in the costume. As for the costume itself, it's definitely unique. I know I haven't seen that anywhere else pri...

Are shorter anime's better?

1188d ago ... I've noticed a growing trend for anime's to end at 12 (or 13) episodes lately. For many years we've seen most anime's go to about 26 episodes and then perhaps end with an OVA. Outside of your long-running series like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, etc., it's quite refreshing to see new anime's telling their story in 12 episodes. Yes, I'd love to see many of them drawn out a bit more, but it's ni...

Gantz Movie World Premiere = Awesome | Review/Recap

1349d ago ... The Gantz movie premiere has come and gone, but the memories shall live on (I hope!) What started as a 2.5 hour drive quickly turned into 3 hours as snow began to fall. Thankfully it was simply a light flurry and didn't last for too long. Now, one of the benefits of going to a premiere like this is we also get the chance to do some shopping and have some food we otherwise normally wouldn't....

Anyone going to the US Gantz Premiere?

1374d ago ... i'm sure most fans are now well aware that Gantz will be premiering in the United States FIRST. Yes, before Japan, shocking, I know. That said, I have tickets to the premiere in Syracuse, NY and am wondering who else is going (in other cities)? With 300 screens in moderate to large cities I'm expecting 10s of 1,000s of people to attend the premiere and stay around for the live Q&A afterwards.

Anime's with awful endings; who should you please?

1406d ago ... I've seen *a few* anime's in my day. So many so that I have started an excel sheet to keep track of which seasons, OVAs, etc I've seen. But there have also been a handful (I won't name names) that have been great throughout the series, but had awful endings. Which leads me to this simple question: Who should creators of anime's please? Should it be the audience, the people who (hopefully)...

Your favorite Studio Ghibli movie?

1425d ago ... Since Studio Ghibli is going to be announcing their newest work/production on December 15: http://animeshinbun.com/news/641280/studio-ghibli-to-announce-new-work-on-december-15 , I'm curious to see what everyones' favorite Studio Ghibli movie is... Mine has to be Howl's Moving Castle. While many will go with Spirited Away (which is a great movie) or Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle...

Taking a chance, finding a gem

1432d ago ... I like to think that I take chances on lesser-known anime's and last night I happened upon possibly one of the best new series' (I've seen) in a while. "Star Driver" Star Driver Kagayaki no Takuto "is a 2010 Japanese anime television series created and animated by BONES and produced by Aniplex. The series is directed by Takuya Igarashi, with character designs by Yoshiyuki Ito and Hiroka a...

First Time Cosplay-er

1457d ago ... I've been going to conventions for three years now, primarily Anime North and this year Naru2U. Each year I've gone in 'civilian' and each year I feel out of place amongst everyone who is cosplaying. Well all that is changing for next year. I've finally decided on what my first ever cosplay is going to be; Tetsuya from Casshern (the movie, not to be confused with the original anime Casshan)...
