"It’s hard to argue that Blue Exorcist wasn’t one of the most popular anime series of 2011. It seemed like almost overnight, the entire anime fandom had their eyes on Kazue Kato’s creation. To ascertain exactly what made Blue Exorcist so popular is a difficult task to undertake. From the outside, there doesn’t appear to be anything especially remarkable about this anime. So how has it managed to captivate audiences worldwide? What is it about Blue Exorcist that so many people have connected with? Well after viewing the first collection of the series, I think I understand now."
The only thing that disappointed me about this series was actually the fact that it was too short. I do know that it ended up catching up to the source material very fast and had to do an anime original ending, albeit one with possible continuation. But it certainly had a chance to make a name for itself as a long running series.
