Looking East / Geographically distant, Africa brought closer through the world of anime

The Daily Yomiuri's Takamasa Sakurai writes, "Support from Japanese expats needs to be strong as Japanese content expands overseas. There are limitations to what the government can do, especially when diplomats are rotated every two or three years.

The final lecture was to young native South Africans, who have had less exposure to Japanese pop culture than people in countries that hold big anime events like Japan Expo.

My goal was to help South African anime fans build networks and communities through events like this and to meet like-minded people."
