Nintendo is planning to celebrate Kirby's 20th anniversary by vying for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. The video game conglomerate wants to gather more than 304 people to blow chewing gum bubbles at Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) in Seattle on September 1. The array of pink bubbles are supposed to honor game character Kirby.
The pink vacuum-mouthed character first appeared in HAL Laboratory's Kirby's Dream Land for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1992. The character has since appeared in some 20 game titles and made cameos in others, including the Super Smash Bros. series, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, EarthBound, and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
