"Big Three" Don't Top Fan Poll of Favorite Shonen Jump Inspired Anime

A recent Biglobe Anime Ranking poll, asking Japanese fans to name their favorite anime inspired by Shonen Jump manga says something about recency bias, but it always says something about the evolution of what was once the quintessential boys manga magazine. The top spot didn't go to one of "big three" (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece). It went to a series with heaps of cross-over appeal and remarkable female readership.

I wouldn't have expected them to get the top spot. These polls always have the show that the Japanese have watched recently on the top spot.

it's because fillers are terrible

I wouldnt even call Hunter X Hunter a shounen. I guess its called one because the main character doesnt kill.

Or it could be that the main character is a Shounen.

probably i guess i can call it borderline shounen/seinen. I guess thats why i like it they're not afraid to kill.

Good. Though imo the 'Big Three' don't even deserve to be in the top 10. Naruto is a plague of deus ex machina and flashbacks. One Piece has interesting design but the characterization is complete arse and every couple of pages I have to pause to stop laughing at the ridiculous dialogue. Bleach started off with promise but degenerated in quality following the end of the Soul Society arc with some pretty abysmal story telling and Kubo's increasingly lazy art. I can't for the life of me understand why those three are still so popular.

On another note, I'm surprised at Medaka Box taking 3rd, granted it was certainly amusing but as of late I've got barely any idea what's going on. I know it's supposed to be a satire of some typical Shounen tropes but good God above it's like the author doesn't even care how batshit it all seems. Gintama definitely deserved second, and it's easily the only longest-running manga I've read that's been consistent in terms of quality; what it lacks in artistic value it's made up for time and time again with some pretty heartwarming serious story moments and outrageously funny material, though I do feel at times that some of the references made are a little vague.

obviously the humor and unique dialog in one piece is wasted on you

for me, no other action oriented anime has mixed comedy and decent fighting as well

then i guess fairy tail isn't up your alley>?

If Gintama were to be released in the US it would be huge, I don't know why it's taking them so long to do so.
