Avatar is not an anime. Just a wannbe western cartoon.

Craziest anime character i know of is Ken from (Hokuto no Ken), which was an awful anime with no story and senseless fighting. Where they just go "Yuuu Washaa" and other crazy chiense martial arts words.

Luffy is also pretty crazy, but I would call him stupid more than crazy. Wonder if his changed in the later episodes (no watched OP since 4 years ago)

I don't want to stick up for Avatar but I just watched the series on Netflix. TBH it is better than most Anime arcs out there.

Totally give it a chance if you haven't and start from the beginning.

I think calling it a wannabe anime is too harsh.

The reason I say that is because the people who wrote and helped produce it LOVE anime. They wanted to blend Japanese character styles with eastern art and did a pretty good job of it.

Anime stems mostly from Astro Boy in Japan. The creator is Astro Boy loved disney and got a lot of his ideas and art style from Disney.

Same with Akira Toriyama from DBZ. He grew up with Disney flicks and loved drawing the characters.

My point is all artists gravitate towards a style they like. You will see lots of things borrowed from Anime, Simpsons, Family Guy, for many years to come.

@Above, your saying Osamu Tezuka (astro boy creator) was influnced by disney?

Actually you will find its the other way round, Walt Disney (founder of disney) blatantly stole ideas from Osamu after he died.

Proof he copied Kimba the white lion (anime) for his lion king movie:

Anime>Western cartoons

It went both ways . Tezuka admired disney's work and took inspiration from it with a completely different twist . And then later Disney just blatantly stole it .

And it wasnt walt disney at all , the last movie he was involved with was the Jungle book in the lae 60s , before his death .

And no avatar isnt at all an anime , but it's still pretty good .

Osamu Tezuka was inspired directly by the Disney feature film Bambi. This was used as the basis for his "big-eyed" character design. Big wide eyed characters are now the staple of anime.

I wasn't keen on Avatar either but I started watching it and found that it was really good. It pretty much had me hooked by the time I was about 5 episodes in.

People can call it a wanabe. I think of it that way too but it's a damn good wanabe anime IMO.

JohnnyMann4203975d ago

@Ranma Yes Osamau openly admitted it and talked about it. So did Akira Toriyama.

I'm not saying that America is the best etc, I am just telling you that Anime at heart did have American influence.

Also, don't take this as "those darn Japanese took our art" I didn't mean it that way.

Japan has the market for Anime/toons, something America lost for a few decades until around 20 years ago. Japan artists created styles and built on what they knew.

I think it is great to see that now American artists are the ones inspired by Anime.

I'll reply to you so that you see it. You realise that Walt Disney died some 22 years before Tezuka don't you?

Getowned3975d ago

I gotta say avatar is actually kinda awesome.

Raf1k13975d ago

If you've not seen OP for four years then I'm guessing you haven't got to the time skip. I won't say anything to spoil it but it's pretty awesome and don't think you'll be disappointed.

Simon_Brezhnev3975d ago

You sure do act like you know everything about anime. Let me guess you only saw one episode of Hokuto No Ken. Since it does have a story and not senseless fightining like you claim.

You seem to hate western cartoons. Avatar is pretty damn good i guess it doesnt have a story 2 right? How is it a wannabe western cartoon when it is a western cartoon.

If funny how you say everything is a want to be from japanese cartoons but Japanese most famous cartoons are direct copies of chinese history. LOL
