Throughout the Demon Slayer anime and manga, fans believe Muzan does not fear anything. However, we soon learn this is now true. We soon know that Muzan is, in fact, a coward and makes his demon army do most of the work for him. His fears come to light when Kamado Tanjiro comes into the picture. So, follow this guide to learn why Muzan is afraid of Tanjiro in Kimetsu no Yaib: Demon Slayer.
Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer – Why is Muzan afraid for Tanjiro?
For the longest time, Kibutsuji Muzan has made others believe he is all-powerful and fears nothing. However, this perception of him will be broken down as the Demon Slayer series progresses. As Kamado Tanjiro picks up more skills and hones the Hinokami Kagura Breathing Style, Muzan begins to fear him.
But you may be asking why Muzan is afraid of Tanjiro. Well, there are a few answers to that question. We must first address the Hanafuda earring given to Tanjiro by his father, Tanjuro. These Hanafuda earrings play a significant role in informing Muzan who the Kamada family is.
These earrings once belonged to the Tsugikuni Yoriichi and had been gifted to Kamado Sumiyoshi. Tanjiro is Sumiyoshi’s descendent and the new owner of the earrings. While Sumiyoshi was not part of the Demon Slayer Corps, he learned the movements from Yoriichi.
This now leads us to the second part of why Muzan is afraid of Tanjiro. Sun Breathing is the Breathing Style that can prevent Demons from regenerating. The Hinokami Kagura is an alternate version of this Breathing Style. Of course, whenever Tanjiro uses this style, Muzan is reminded of Yoriichi. It’s not to say that Muzan is necessarily afraid of Tanjiro, but rather the trauma of almost dying at Yoriichi’s hand.
As a result, this trauma has been seared into his blood. Each time Tanjiro uses Hinokami Kagura against the Demons, they see Muzans memories of Yoriichi almost killing him.
