Having watched Madoka the movie, as someone who followed the TV series back in 2011, can I just say that it's basically the resonance of the Faustian deal as depicted by an ideal, that makes Madoka Magica's mark in the modern psyche? The two compilation films conjured the same thoughts and feelings I had, minus the worries from the March 11th earthquake and tsunami.
The two 2-hour recap movies do a pretty good job framing the main themes and story concepts within their confines. Certainly, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a show that warrants a rewatching, and the two movies relied on that fact and delivered a solid experience.
