With much of Japan’s game industry now seemingly in thrall to Western trends rather than their own distinctive ideas, Mark Butler argues that the country’s creatives need to get back to doing what they do best.
Right, because Dark Souls was just awful. This is a perfect example of why no one should ever make blanket statements. What should Japanese developers do? The same thing Western developers do. They should make the games they want to make, and NOT try to pander to specific audiences. This is where all games get in trouble. It was the root of Ace Combat Assault Horizons issues, Final Fantasy XIII's issues; Mass Effect 3's issues, Dragon Age 2's issues.
