i always wanted to know why anime characters dont look asian at all, for example the girl on the thumbnail looks kind of european....

Simon_Brezhnev1472d ago

I watch a lot of anime and thats true. Only a few animes have characters that look asian. I think the reason they look so different so people wont get characters mixed up.

Definitely, I mostly remember characters by their hair colour. If all of the hair was black then I'd be confused as hell.

Same with faces, some people in Asian countries can look very similar (I sound like an old racist).

If everyone had the same hair style and colour like they do in real life, then you would not be able to tell them apart unless the character designs were really detailed. Let's face it, some people can look very similar (for all races), the only way we can tell them apart is the small details (thicker eyebrows, lower mouth, spread apart eyes, etc.).

I think Kiki (girl in the thumbnail) was European. I watched Kiki's Delivery Service long ago but the town and witch aspects were certainly European. Different anime have different art styles. Look at Naoki Urasawa's Monster. The art is very realistic and Asians look Asian, European look European. Now look at The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, the eyes are exaggeratedly huge and they don't look either European or Asian (except for Kyon). They just look anime.

The reason is (without being racist) that asian people typically have smaller eyes than other races.

One of the most important aspects of anime characters is they have big eyes. The big eyes are much more emotionally expressive than small eyes and is a key reason why anime is so popular.

Once again (still not being racist) anime girls often have big breasts and asian girls typically don't. British girls on the other hand. Now that's a bouncy subject.

If this came across as racist then bugger.

Your not being racist just telling the truth. lol

Another thing a lot of people might not notice is you can tell the character is underage if their eyes is big. If it looks normal they're more likely over 18.

Oh yeah. That's often true. I never noticed it till you mentioned it.

Damn. Now I won't be able to not notice it :)
