This week Corey Richards ranks up the top ten anime TV series' of all time!
Nice list, entertaining read, and well edited.
My favorites have been: Gundum, DBZ, wolves rain, big O, death note, naruto, cowboy bebop, Afro samurai, FLCL, full metal alchemist brotherhood (the original was good just the ending sucked) trigun, .hack, paranoid agent and Hellsing. There's a ton more like darker than black but those are the best ones I've seen. I love how deep animes are compared to cartoons.
All comes down to personal preference, You can never list the best anime really. I would get rid of FLCL and Pokemon, and put One Piece and Claymore on there.
Agree, anime are brilliant, and the variety of genres makes it even better. I can't even begin to explain how much anime has changed my life, improved it, as well as meant the world to me.
Thanks! Corey John Richards
*sigh* Really? A list of the "Top 10 Anime Series Of All-Time" and it includes DBZ, Naruto, Bleach, and Pokemon? ...this seems more like a list of the best anime to air on American television, than of all time, and even then I'd still put Kenshin, Outlaw Star, Big O, or any of the pre 2000 Gundams over the four I just listed. At least they put the more emotional and character driven first FMA over the shallow action-fest that was Brotherhood. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, but if this is what the author considers the best anime to ever be created than he hasn't seen much...
I agree, Zeta Gundam should be on that list, or the 0079.
So mainstream, which isn't bad but a few of those shows aren't particularly good, just popular.
I used to like the pokemon anime as a kid but when i look back on it its bad. Team Rocket every other episode, long intervals between gym fights, random towns, ans Ash loses every season. I always felt Digimon was a better show than Pokemon. Naruto and Bleach are better mangas than anime the filler prevent me from caring enough to watch. Other than that theres much better anime than some of the ones listed.
How is death note listed as the best... are you kidding me? I could list around 50 that I would put before that anime. Pokemon is another what is that doing in the top 10? Maybe in the top 100 but top 10? Must be there for sentimental value. I would probably put DBZ as number one also.
I had qualms with this list almost as soon as I started reading it. But when I saw Pokemon ranked above Cowboy Bebop I did a spit take. Never let it be said there aren't wrong opinions.
where in the hell is Steins Gate? and Bleach and Pokemon? lol c'mon
seen all except from FLCL. ill give that a try.
Flcl is the sh!t lol it's on Netflix give it a watch. Only 6 episode by the way.
it's an acquired taste... as most of those are...
I want to say Angel Beats, but I'm not sure. Its one of my favourite animes but its only fault is that it was too short to explain the background of most of the characters. But that might just be something minor.
Death Note, Bleach, Naruto, and Pokemon shouldn't be on that list. And no Gundam Wing???
lol tier list, literally every show is from Toonami/Adult Swim. What, was there no room for One Piece and Yu-Gi-Oh?
First of all my favorite anime/manga of all the time is Bleach, so this should be number one. Death Note is my number two though. Naruto should be a little higher..my opinion ^^ I was really surprised by the fact that Pokémon was actually on the list. Please don't get me wrong here I'm a huge fan of Pokémon, especially of the games. The first seasons of the anime were simply perfect, then the quality really dropped and I guess we can't compare the Pokémon to a show like Death Note. The themes are just too different and so is the audience. I don't like to say it but Pokémon is rather a show for kids...but it's still epic! Equally surprising is that One Piece is NOT on the list. To be honest I've just recently started reading it so I actually can't judge it yet - the first 100 chapters are pretty good though. I'm just mentioning this because One Piece seems to be everyone's favorite. It would be interesting to hear why it is not a part of the Top 10. Well and I guess we all know that you should make a new list in a few weeks where Shingeki no Kyojin is included haha :)
Death Note sucks... it started out well and just falls away half way through
Based on just the first 26 eps, it's still one of the best animus around, considering its about a guy writing in a book.
We maybe the movie will be better it's being directed by the guy who directed Iron Man 3
This guy took every famous anime out there & put it in that list those anime r nowhere near the best anime of all time I have watch all of them & I wouldn't put in such list more than 3 titles from his list & that's it, this guy is probably young I watch anime for 23 years from the 80's & I have watch all the good ones even from the 70's & every good show we get till now this list is nothing more than his personal opinion to put a title like "best anime of all time" it's nothing more than a joke & an especially bad one.
Dragon Ball Z ............
I enjoyed Vandred series a lot I'd record it off showtime back in the late 90s.
BLEACH? LOL! No Samurai X?
I would just like to say thanks to all the users over here at animeshinbun.com for the great response to the article and making it the hottest of the day. I know many of you have said how you disagree with my selection, but after all it is down to personal preference and I did detail why I felt they deserved the position I gave. I'm a huge fan of Death Note and could give you many reasons why I think it deserved the number one position, however many of the others could have been interchanged and it wouldn't have made a huge difference. I did mention that Pokemon I did struggle with putting so high, but the nostalgia and introduction it gave me to anime and the fact I still enjoy it to this day were many of the reasons it came high. I never got into One Piece, Gundam, Trigun etc, ergo why they're not on the list. Thanks for the responses and I understand many will and will not agree. Especially thanks to the guy who complimented it being well edited, as a Journalism student having comments related to my writing are great and a learning curve. Thanks. The best thing is that it created discussion! Corey John Richards
I think the reason people are in an uproar over this article is because it's titled "Top 10 Anime Series Of All-Time" instead of something along the lines of "Top 10 favorite anime" or "Top 10 anime I've seen". Since "all-time" would imply that you've watched every anime created in the last 40+ years (or at least all the note worthy ones) and that you were somehow able to whittle them down and pick the 10 that are best, based on some arbitrary scale... or maybe that's just my gripe with it.
Yeah sorry about that, that's because there was a previous post on the site by a different author titled, "top ten anime movies of all-time" and because I had to follow house style in this regards as it was a following post, I had to entitle like so. But it is definitely an opinion piece and not to be taken as some have took it.
No love for Gurren Lagann? I'm still pissed there was only a season.
My list from back a while was sort of similar to this, I must say while I agree with some of the list I think some of them do not belong in that particular order, namely Evangelion, Death Note and Bebop. Also Really? Pokemon at #3? Didn't realize anyone could consider that a top 10, same with Bleach. Naruto and DBZ however are 2 of the biggest and best anime out there and I applaud you for including them. Would of liked to of seen the likes of Eureka Seven, Macross, Angel Beats and Eden of the East because some of those definitely deserve a top-ten slot. We were actually planning on doing a top anime weekly segment on www.thenerdcabinet.com but we decided they spur too much conflict and opinions may differ so now we run a weekly recommendation post.
DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon, Sailor Moon, Sakura Card Captors, InuYasha, Yu Yu Hakusho...these are the ones for me. I don't like modern anime haha
Psycho Pass bar none..
The only shonen I believe deserve to be on any best anime list is either One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho, or Fullmetal Alchemist [Original and/or Brotherhood]. Bleach is one of those could-have-beens and Naruto...Please don't even get me started on Naruto. Dragonball is debatable. Pokemon is transition. It's really hard to count Rurouni Kenshin as a shonen. (Especially if you take into account the OVAs) It features adult characters and much more mature themes/romance. But regardless the last third of the series drops off a cliff. Haven't seen Hunter x Hunter (Old or New) or Fairy Tail. Though I hear they have potential.
