Mekakucity Actors Episode 1 - Shinbo Presents: Clippy! Wait, What?!

Another entry in my note-taking and thought-jotting series of posts on currently running shows. This is my first impressions of the show. A lot of it is spent talking about Clippy, err.. Ene, which as a somewhat older person I remember all too-well. This show is so Shinbo (Shaft).

As always, the notes were taken while actually watching the episode, and rather than just repeating what you've already watched, elaborate upon it, assuming you've already watched the episode.

You know, people keep saying how Shinbo is self-indulgent, using the same backdrops, same character designs, and all the minimalist and "oh-so-artistic" backdrops, right? I think it's actually a cover for how much Shaft can't handle the workload, so they keep running back to reusing old material.

As for this show? I have no idea where it is going. I'm definitely going to watch another episode. Ene... she didn't really annoy me, but she was very annoying. More than annoying, she was tiring. It is here that Shaft truly had been self-indulgent, as they let Ene run loose for far longer than they should have. Well, if each episode follows different characters, we'll also have less Ene to deal with ;-)

If it follows the manga, there'll be a whole arc on her character.

Although her arc is pretty interesting.

Something was off with this first episode, I don't think the emotion of the characters was portrayed properly.

It was just talking that didn't really do anything.

Nonetheless, Shaft is awesome, so I'll keep on it.

The episode spent too much time doing nothing, I think that's the issue. It did interest us for what is to come, so I guess there's that.

And Shaft could probably use a wake-up call, to earn their awesome, rather than rely on things they didn't work on (as in, re-using their old content).
