Rail Wars! Japanese National Railways Security Force (Rail Wars! Nihon Kokuyuu Tetsudou Kouantai) is a new anime produced by Passione, a relatively new studio that has previously served mainly in support roles for other studios (having contributed work to AKB0048, Dog Days, Fairy Tail, and Wake Up, Girls! among other titles). This is Yoshifumi Sueda’s first time directing a series, though he has served as an episode director or handled storyboards for numerous titles (including Bleach, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Gosick, Knights of Sidonia, Maoyu, So, I Can’t Play H, and Un-Go). This work is based on a light novel series by Takumi Toyoda which debuted at the beginning of 2012 and is still ongoing. The story takes place in an alternate Japan where the railways were never privatized. In this world, Naoto Takayama, an ordinary high school student, wishes to find secure and comfortable employment with the national railway, but ends up being a trainee in the security force where he has to deal with strange co-workers and potential threats to the safety of the trains.
