Sword Art Online II Episode 24 (Finale) – Saying Goodbye

Another entry in my note-taking and thought-jotting series of posts on currently running shows. This episode was the culmination of the arc, and revolved around memories, memorials, and those left behind.

As it's the finale, also included some round-up thoughts on this arc and season as a whole.

As always, the notes were taken while actually watching the episode, and rather than just repeating what you've already watched, elaborate upon it, assuming you've already watched the episode.

I thought this was a solid episode, and I did get emotional during a couple of times. This was a solid season with better storytelling and character-development than the first, but I just wasn't as excited about it. I think part of it was that I was watching myself watch the series, and didn't marathon it.

I really enjoyed the first half of SAOII but really couldn't get into the second half, just like the first season... I still watched it each week but I really couldn't get emotionally attached to a character we had only just met about 5 episodes before.

Still, all that said, roll on season III!

Well, part of the shtick is to make you care relatively quickly. Try Shigofumi for an example. But sometimes it just doesn't work, or you care for Asuna, and not Yuuki. Or for the basic humanity the scenes are trying to portray.

5 episodes earlier = 100 minutes. Think of a movie, if you're not invested in a character by the time 100 minutes, or even 60 minutes roll by, there might be an issue :-/

Now I really want season 3 but it probably won't come out for another 2 years. It's suppose to be the best arc from what I heard.

It's one continuous arc that feels like a real story. It's still ongoing though, it's longer than all the other arcs combined. Most likely 2 years till it ends, and then adaptation will take a while, and due to length, one has to wonder if they'll even bother trying to adapt it all, and how if they do decide.

It was a great emotional episode.
