Mr. Flaw talks about his issues with anime comedies and why he very rarely laughs at them.
Some be funny in away but most probably 80-90% don't be funny but stupid and retarded. One reason why watch less now and more comic books stuff like dc and marvel.
I agree on the comic bit. It gets old seeing a giant tear drop appear over someone - or a somewhat serious anime being interrupted by the protagonist going all chibi with swirly eyes.
Don't know is way better then anime's that make the hero try to get the bad guy to become good while people are getting killed. Plus this user pretty much cries about every anime.
I think that a big problem with a lot of comedic animes is a lack of............... ............ ............ ............ ............ .....timing.
I kinda understand this. An anime that always gets me to laugh is Desert Punk tho.
I found that japanese humour is very different to what most are used to. it's all a matter of adjusting I think - same can be said of American and British humour. All have their trademarks, and specific beats which make them different from the others, and is mostly tied in the culture and history of the country from which they originate. long story short, it's all a matter of preference, and each brand of humour is an acquired taste, if it can be acquired at all.
Classic Japanese humour is mostly straightman/idiot combinations. If you don't understand why, then you don't understand the culture. And yes it's as you say, humour varies from region to region. For the same reason I find American humour crass and often not funny.
On the contrary, I find anime comedy to be quite refreshing for the age they're aiming at. Gintama is the most famous comedy anime out there but it isn't mentioned In the article. I think the perfect example of the sort of comedy he's talking about working is Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki ku, it's cute and hihilarious Daily lives of high-school boys is also impressive. You just need to know where to look
Not a fan of Gintama. I read ten volumes of the manga and watched 24 episodes and it didn't make me laugh once. I did mention Daily Lives of Highschool Boys (sort of) with my first pic. All of the jokes are just doing what's not expected of 4-koma adaptations and commenting on that fact. I don't like explicit satires like that. Couldn't get into Nozaki-kun. I don't even remember anything about it apart from that funky OP and the fact that it fell under the same trappings as HS boys, only slightly better because it actually plays things straight at appropriate times. Yeah, none of those anime comedies even come close to Fumoffu in terms of laughter.
Then... I guess you're looking for something that doesn't exist lol. Anime have a certain kind of humour to them... The only thing I can think of mow is the Ghost Stories dUb (only the dub) That Shizzle cray
A shame cause some anime made me laugh so hard it made me cry. Gintama, Daily Lives of Highschool Boys, Cromartie. Funny parts from anime that the focus ain't comedy made me laugh lots as well like Hajime no Ippo. Well it's not hard to make me laugh, but IMO that's a good thing hehe
Are they supposed to be funny? I've never laughed.
No me neither, but i don't really laugh at this sort of stuff anyway!
I rarely outright laugh at comedy regardless of it's animated or live-action. I still find it entertaining, though!
Really? That's a shame considering the main goal of the comedy genre in general is to make you laugh, and if you can't do that, then I think the people trying to do so would be disappointed regardless of other effects the comedy has.
