Ayako Graphic Novel Review (Examiner.com)

Raymond Herrera of Examiner.com reviews Vertical’s recently released Osamu Tezuka title, Ayako, a story of a troubled family in post-World War II Japan.

“Filled with murder, mystery, incest and tragedy Ayako is a great read and even though the book itself appears massive at 704 pages it is difficult to put down once you start to read it. Tezuka manages to level off the serious story filled with sadness with small bits of dark comedy and whether you choose to read it as a social commentary on post war Japan or simply as the story of a family in turmoil Ayako is a tragic story worth reading.

For fans of Tezuka’s stories and manga that have some inspiration from historical events as well as those of you looking for a fascinating read where you don’t have to buy multiple volumes this is a story worth looking into.”
