AnimeShinbun November 2012 Contests

User blog

Yes, it's that time of the month again. Not long to go until Christmas now, is it? We'll be slightly mixing things up this month in the lead-up to the holiday season. ;) As for October's prize winners, those will go up in the next couple of days, along with ticket notifications just in case people aren't checking the blog.

LOYAL READER LOTTERY:
When you visit AnimeShinbun at least once during every 24 hour period during November, you'll gain an entry into our Loyal Reader Lottery! If you want to keep track you can follow along with your Daily Visit score*, so if you want to make sure you've logged in during a 24 hour period check this score on your profile!
* (The Daily Visit score displayed on your profile can occasionally be a little inaccurate. When we actually pick the lotto winners, we pull the data from a more accurate list. So for those of you visiting every day diligently but not triggering the Daily Visit score reward, don't stress out!)

Prize: 1 winner - a $50 Amazon Gift Card!

COMMENTATOR LOTTERY:
Pretty much self-explanatory this one. Each and every comment you make on AnimeShinbun (regardless of if that's in a news story or blog) during the month of November will net you an entry in this competition. And to make things interesting...we'll give you entries for every tip you contribute as well! So no excuses for not contributing those extra stories now when you hit your news submission limit. ;)

Prize: 1 winner - a $50 Amazon Gift Card!

CONTRIBUTOR CONTEST:
How many stories can you submit? Every news story you submit on AnimeShinbun during the month of November will get you 1 entry, and we'll be picking 2 winners at random from those entries.

Prize: 2 winners - a $50 Amazon Gift Card each!

CHRISTMAS CONTEST BRAINSTORMING: This replaces the usual Best User Blog contest for this month. What we're looking for are suggestions from all of you for the kinds of contests you'd like to see us run this year. Last year featured a 12 Days of Christmas trivia contest, where I asked questions ranging from the fairly simple to Google, to the outright obscure. As with the normal blog contest, there's no limit to how many entries you can have here, each separate suggestion you make will count as an entry. You can post suggestions as comments to this blog, or write your own blogs if you've got a lot you'd like to say (and we'll accept comments and further suggestions on those blogs as entries too). The winner will be chosen by myself and Lavalamp, and we'll be looking for contest ideas which will get as many people in the AnimeShinbun community involved as possible.

Prize: 1 winner - a $50 Amazon Gift Card each!

With all of our contests, you'll be disqualified if you pick up a restriction of any kind during the contest period. Comments with negative labels (Trolling, Off Topic, etc.), unresolved reported stories, etc, will not count to any competition.
In the interests of fairness, each entrant will only be eligible to win one prize per month. If your name comes up for multiple prizes, then we'll be awarding you the highest value one and redrawing the others.

I liked the 12 Days of Christmas trivia contest, so long as a person can only win...twice perhaps?
Archaic  +   754d ago
I'd probably have to combine that with making the questions or riddles be a lot easier, if we did do that. Simply because we had several questions last year where the winner was the only person who submitted a correct answer, and they did that on a couple of questions.
SynGamer  +   754d ago
I'll fully admit that a lot of those questions simply stumped me. I'm a casual otaku...if such a thing can exist.

I'll be honest....if I hadn't already known the answers to several of those questions, it would have taken me a quite a bit of time on Google to find the right answers. ^^;;; I don't want to make it quite that difficult this time around.

12 day of christmas was fun :)
Look forward to the winers of OCtober
Archaic  +   753d ago
You would say that, wouldn't you. You actually got questions right. ;p
futurefrog  +   750d ago
ahaha yep!
koga88  +   753d ago
Hm, I would think that the 12 days of Christmas was nice, most of the prizes were pretty small but it gave more people a chance to win and spread the prizes out well amongst the entries, though I won most of em in the end at least four or five others were able to get at least one goodie. It'd be better that way to spread the love around to make sure at least everyone has a shot at winning more than once.
ReconHope  +   753d ago
Good luck to everyone while at the same time i hope you all lose.

Well done to everyone who won.
Instigator  +   748d ago
Thank you, and congrats to the other winners as well.

I wasn't around last december so I'd like to try the 12 Days of Christmas trivia. It sounds like fun.
Lavalamp  +   748d ago
It really was! There were so many opportunities for everyone to get involved, and boy did they! The grand prize really came down to the wire between me and Koga, and, hyperbole be darned, he took the win in a flashy buzzer-beater spectacle you had to see to believe! I definitely hope we can keep the good times rolling this year as well!
Instigator  +   745d ago
I nosed around in the old blogs and found last year's trivia. The questions were interesting and it looked like everyone had a ball, so I'm definitely up for that. Don't expect an epic showdown though, because I probably won't do very good.
coolbeans  +   735d ago | Interesting
Hmmm...trivia sounds interesting.

It would be nice to see some mini-contests that you could judge tossed in. For example: have one day dedicated to judging users' anime-themed haikus.
coolbeans  +   734d ago
Or perhaps include something like choosing the poster who made the best Christmas-themed/anime-themed/ etc. motto.
Archaic  +   734d ago
The only problem with smaller prizes is that it can be a real pain to distribute them. ^^;;
koga88  +   734d ago
Haha, yeah the last time the prizes took quite some time to distribute from the trivia alone. Though I think this was also due to sickness and stuff so can't really blame ya.
coolbeans  +   734d ago
Just looked at the '12 days' contest last year. I can see what you mean.

Perhaps it could be used solely as some sort of bonus point that runs alongside the trivia, in order to keep users in the running for a longer period of time.

In general, it would be interesting to see a few skill-based 'days' beyond trivia added into the mix: haikus, art, etc. (limited to one submission per poster on that day).
Archaic  +   733d ago
That was part of it koga. Another part was that about half of the initial planned prizes went out of stock over the Christmas period. ^^;;

That's an interesting idea there coolbeans. Including a trivia component and a "skill-based" component each day, to give people multiple ways to rack up points, might be a good way to keep people interested over the course of the entire competition. Particularly if we then just award prizes at the very end based on point totals. That would also remove the issue of multiple prizes.

FYI everyone, I'm currently inter-state, and won't be back home until December 6th. Prize winners for November will be announced on that date. The format of the Christmas Contests will be announced at that time or soon after, and those contests will begin on December 12th.
