Tenchi Muyo! Universe Complete Series Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:

"It is easy to see why Tenchi Muyo! Universe is thought to be one of the all-time great anime series that should not be missed by anime fans and while this release may be rather barren as far as bonus features go and the transfer to DVD isn’t quite as smooth as many would have liked, fans of harem comedies would be doing themselves a great disservice if they chose to pass up this latest release of Tenchi Muyo! Universe. Returning fans will still find it an improved version of what they fell in love with over a decade ago while new viewers find themselves laughing constantly but also falling in love with the amazing characters found within Tenchi Muyo! Universe."

I absolutely loved this series back when it was shown on TV and it was my first series that wasn't a shonen show. I can understand why the age may be a bit of a factor in the DVD upgrade, and it is definitely a shame, but not one that is going to stop me from picking this up this week when it comes out.

I don't the fact that it has half as many discs as the GENEON version. Why do those screenshots appear to be lifted straight from VHS.

Wow! I must of remembered differently, my GENEON set really hasn't aged very wel. I'm hoping my ps3 can help get rid of that VHS look. lol

Yeah, looking at the images they look quite terrible considering it is meant to be a DVD release, but from the sound of it there wasn't too much they could have done to improve the visuals from the VHS version. How many discs were in the Geneon release? As this one only has four from what I've found.

The geneon set has eight discs, despite that, it still looks as if the source were from VHS. I probably hadn't notice that 8 years ago, back then CRT was king.

Man...this brings back memories. Not as impressive as the OVA's, but I still loved this series. Plus, I don't think I've seen it since it was on Toonami way back when, so I've kind of GOT to pick this up, don't I?
