Persona 4 Animation Volume 1 Review | Capsule Computers

Luke Halliday writes:

"What makes for a good adaptation? How does one bend one medium into another? Persona 4: The Animation asks this question to its audience, albeit complete unintentionally. the game is good but the anime is bad

It isn't a bad anime, the person reviewing the anime had no clue about the series itself. If you do like persona then you'd be doing yourself a disservice by passing this up over one review.

this was a fair review, this just was too literal an adaptation and was to be honest very boring

I like how the reviewer mentions that they are limiting their audience to a small number by having it focus on previous knowledge. Outside of Nintendo titles, the Persona games usually end up having the highest number of sales for any console they came on. They released Persona 4 Golden in Japan and it has the highest sales for that console which would be much larger than any basic animation.

Sounds like a poor English dub though, but I think the reviewer is just not one they should have given this show to review if he had no idea what he was getting into.

I actually watched Persona 4 before I played p3 and p4.

I understood it as I knew that the character was designed to be a blank slate. I actually preferred that he had a "no f*cks given" attitude because it makes the story present itself in as neutral a state as possible.
