M WILD (@TroyAndretti) tweets that Naruto characters are the weakest in anime. @ShortPauseAnime responds.
Well when one of your main characters (Sasuke) is based off of another character (Kurapika from Hunter X Hunter), surely you must have trouble thinking of good ideas for side characters.....
Also Naruto was publish 1997. Hunter X Hunter was publish 1998.
SPOILER ALERT**** DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT READ LATEST NARUTO> Its a good opinion. I respect that. My opinion is the weakest is actually DBZ characters. Naruto got OP characters. Naruto/ Sasuke in sage mode. Madara and Itachi are in their own leagues. Both are always steps ahead of the fight no matter what. Let alone, Itachi does got the most OP Susanoo with a blade of totsuka and yata mirror which literally deflects any and all attacks. I highly doubt any universe can counter Genjutsu. Now going back to DBZ characters, Goku is the only one strongest to go against the Naruto universe. I see only DBZ villains and Goku can go toe to toe with Naruto characters. Saying Naruto character weak, try putting Yamcha, Tien, and Hercules in the Naruto Universe. They won't last. Let's get things straight though, I love both DBZ and Naruto equally. Both are unique and different in every way.
If they are strong enough to blow up the planet Naruto loses. Thats half the characters in DbZ
goku can one shot the entire narutoverse far as power level goes
@Trunkz Jr - I can see where you're coming from. Both have the red eyes. Both had their clans wiped out. Both are avengers. Naruto was originally released in 97 in a pilot that was very different than what it is now. Sasuke wasn't in it. HxH came out in 98, then the Naruto we know of came out in 99. Right? I don't think Kurapika's eyes do anything, though. I mean, he gets angry, he gets stronger, and his eyes turn red, but is it the cause or the effect? Sasuke's eyes do a lot of things. Also, Sasuke is to Naruto as Killua is to Gon, more so than Kurapika. I even read that Kurapika was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's "Nausicaa", so maybe the idea for Sasuke came from an Ohmu? I wouldn't hold it against Kishimoto. (Now, you got me thinking about similarities between Goku and Superman.) But, do you think Kurapika can BEAT Sasuke?
The thing is though, "powerful" doesn't necessarily mean interesting in my book. Sure Goku can probably destroy a star with his finger but is that really all that interesting? I love DBZ and I've watched the hell out of it but as time went on, I've come to realize that DBZ is pretty much the same formula, train, power up, go up another saiyan level, act like a badass, get ass kicked, power up some more, Defeat bad guy after 40 episodes, rinse and repeat. They don't even gain any new powers when they go up a level. They're just stronger, faster etc. Sure Naruto characters aren't as powerful, I'm not sure any anime character can match their strength but imo, they're a lot more interesting, not the best, but there's more development. Naruto could learn to use his wind techniques and expand his repertoire a bit more but he's far from my favorite character anyway (Jiraiya, Itachi and Kakashi, Minato, Hashirama, my top 5) It's the same problem I have with Superman, they just end up becoming so powerful, it's boring. At least Naruto finds interesting ways to defeat his opponents (think 3rd Raikage, Pain, Kabuto,) While watching DBZ, you're essentially waiting for a Kamehameha or a Spirit Bomb to finish the job, which only worked once in the entire series.
What makes it a better watch is that Naruto could realistically die, whereas Goku seems to come back to life every time he dies so these fights make it complete pointless because we'll all know the outcome. It makes it less predictable for the viewer. DBZ will always have a place in my nostalgic heart. But as a show in general, looking at it now, it's super mediocre.
Agreed, although Naruto could technically be brought back to life too in several ways..But yeah, the overuse of reviving with the OP Dragonballs pretty much made every battle feel a bit empty at the end, no real sense of danger and loss. Naruto has actually made me tear up during several death scenes.
You tear up too? I got a bit misty eyed in SEVERAL spots of Naruto. I'm glad I'm not the only one. There has only been one other anime that made me feel really sad, (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time), which proves to me that I find Naruto characters far more interesting than DBZ.
Yea, there's no way I can ever tear up with DBZ, they die all the time and get revived again and again and even when they die, they're still "alive" somewhere. I think I've teared up on almost every single death scene in Naruto, they're very well handled. The music is also fantastic and adds to the death scenes. DBZ is great but in the end, it's just a bunch of overpowered dudes shooting beams and punching each other.
People get it straight, Plot =/= Characters. I would only agree with Naruto Shippuden characters.
