I keep seeing a lot of hate towards the second season, which saddens me. It's not necessarily the hate itself that bothers me, but how some completely disregard the very obvious growth Reki Kawahara has went through as a writer.

Sword Art Online II is completely different in structure than the previous season. Even if you're still not a fan of the series, then at the very least admit that he as grown. Otherwise it just reads as silly hate for the sake of hating.

Well, they can think it's better but still bad, but in the end, what you think coming in will usually colour what you think of what you see.

It's really hard to change one's impression of a show, and when one focuses on the negative aspects, it's easy to find them, and assign more weight to them.

So, sad? Sure. Because I for one always wish everyone would enjoy every show they are watching, but unsurprising.

Indeed, you're correct. It also seems as if many still are affected by the first season and unleashes hate towards the second season because of it. It probably wouldn't matter if season two was terrible or awesome, as the hate would still be there.

It feels a bit slow to me. I loved the first season because of it's pace. Some people didn't like it because it jumped around a lot, but that was the best thing about it imo, because it meant there was no lull. Second season is a lot more like a normal anime, first three episodes especially were pretty slow, but it looks like things are picking up.

Really? The first season jumped around with little to no weight to the story. Surprised it didn't bother you. In one episode Kirito and Asuna were strangers, in the next they were essentially lovers.

But indeed, it looks like season 2 is picking up the pace after the slow introduction.

Didn't bother me at all because I found the story quite easy to follow. A lot of people couldn't understand it because they couldn't understand that you have to assume that there was a long passage of time between some of the episodes. As long as you understood that the time aspect was not like a normal anime, everything made sense.
