ANN writes: "A new temporary maid café opened in Tokyo with "old maids" — women who are older or dressed and made up to look older. The shop is named Café Rottenmeier after the housekeeper who appears in Johanna Spyri's novel Heidi — which future Studio Ghibli co-founder Isao Takahata (Pom Poko, Only Yesterday, Grave of the Fireflies) adapted into the popular television anime series Alps no Shōjo Heidi in 1974. The café's maids do choral performances of the anime's opening theme song as well.
The café is being run by art photographer Miwa Yanagi, who frequently uses elderly women in her work. The cafe will be open on weekends until November 28 and also on November 23 (Labor Thanksgiving Day)."
