Manga vs. Books: What Should Kids Read?

"I love manga, but if I'm reading manga all the time my mom says, "Don't read nothing but manga!" And then, "Read lots of books, ok?" At times like that I'm always thinking, "Why should it be that I have to read a lot of books, but reading manga is bad?" What's the difference between manga and books in the first place? Isn't it just whether there are pictures attached or not!? I think adults are just baselessly deciding that 'manga is not so good.'"

I like the Rurouni Kenshin manga, and I used to have all of the Cowboy Bebop manga too. The stories are a little different from the anime, and in some of them there are little messages from the creator of the series that you don't usually get in the anime series.

Question, I'm currently pondering of buying the trigun manga... Not really into the buying mangas and such but I think i might do it for trigun. Is it worth it?

If you like Trigun enough go for it. You might be surprised at the differences between the anime and the manga.

For me, it very much depends on the title. DBZ is faster in Manga form (pre kai version) as it didn't really do any filler. Also Rurouni Kenshin had some fair differences that made it worth reading.

Books, simple as that. People don't say that you should read books as you grow up because they think the story will not be as good in manga/comics. Kids can read whatever they want as they grow up but they need to read books, as it help your understanding of written language in a way that manga/comics does not.
