Throughout most popular anime and manga Bleach, Kurosaki Ichigo can be seen wielding a large Shikai, the second form of a Zanpakuto. To activate all Shikai, a Shinigami must learn the name of the Zanpakuto. So, after rigorous training from Urahara Kisuke, Ichigo could prevent his Hollowfication and wield his sword.

For the longest time, Ichigo has been Hollows, Shinigami, and Arrancar; you name it while also fighting his own Hollow and Quincy legacy. Of course, you may have thought Ichigo is plenty strong just the way he is, but it has always been clear that something was missing.

As you already know, Ichigo is of mixed blood, Quincy and Shinigami, with a dash of Hollow. As a result, these powers have constantly been clashing with one another, which is why Ichigo has not reached his full potential yet. These Zanpakuto represent both of Ichigo’s powers. The larger blade is representative of his inner Hollow and Shinigami, and the shorter one is his Quincy.
