Kimetsu no Yaiba, commonly known by its English title Demon Slayer, is known for its eccentric characters and sibling bonds. That said, we follow the famous brother and sister duo Tanjiro and Nezuko. After Kibutsuji Muzan brutally attacked the Kamado family home, killing almost everyone. Nezuko was able to survive; however, this came at the cost of turning into a Demon. Demon Slayer – Why is Nezuko biting Bamboo?
Once Tanjiro found the unconscious and half-alive Nezuko in their family home, he took her with him to get help. Unfortunately, along the way, Nezuko awoke and began to attack Tanjiro. When a newly turned Demon awakes, they immediately seek human flesh. So once Nezuko woke up, she had fangs and sharp claws.
Thankfully, before Nezuko could hurt her brother any further, Tomioka Giyu, a Hashira from the Demon Slaying Corps, was able to stop her. After he knocks her out, Giyu places a Bamboo shoot in Nezuko’s mouth to prevent her from eating humans in Demon Slayer. After some time, the Bamboo in her mouth becomes standard practice. To show not only to others she won’t eat humans but also a means to show her dedication to saving her humanity.
Even though Nezuko can prevent herself from eating humans, her Demon instincts will resurface if she is severely injured. Because of this, you can often see Tanjiro holding down Nezuko and placing a sword in her mouth. However, in Chapter 126 of the Demon Slayer manga, Nezuko will no longer need the Bamboo. Even though she is a Demon, she can survive during the daylight, which is why Nezuko will no longer need the Bamboo in her mouth.
