There are various reasons why humans want to become Demons in Demon Slayer. Some want to become a Demon for revenge, become stronger, live longer (or survive Muzan’s wrath) or just want to have fun. However, what of Nakimi, the Biwa woman we see within the Infitinty Castle? In this guide, we’ll explain how did Nakime become a Demon in Demon Slayer.

Demon Slayer – How did Nakime become a Demon?

Most of Kibutsuji Muzan’s (somewhat) faithful Demons are men that have committed atrocious deeds during their time as a Human. However, what of the Biwa woman we see controlling Infinity Castle? How did Nakime become a Demon in Demon Slayer?

Well, like most people living in Japan’s Taisho period, Nakime was one of many struggling to make a living while aspiring to become a better Biwa musician. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), she married a man with a gambling addiction. On one of the nights she was due to play, she found that her husband had sold off her delicate kimono and gambled it away.

Of course, Nakime was enraged by the actions of this man, her husband, so much so that she murdered him. However, her performance meant much more than the life of the gambling-addictive husband. Like a woman on a mission, she had to wear her tattered kimono while performing.

With the murder still fresh in her mind and embarrassed by her physical appearance, she played her Biwa. However, because of all the nervousness she had in her hands while she played, the tension she created on her Biwa was so stunning that the audience wanted more. (This is all important information, we promise!)

Eager to create the sound again, she went off on a killing spree each time she needed to perform again. However, she chose Muzan as her next target on one of her nights. He was so impressed with her that he turned her into a Demon. After this, she quickly rose in the ranked and become an Upper-Rank Four.

And that is it! We conclude our guide on how Nakime became a demon in Demon Slayer. If you enjoyed this guide, check out Why does Himeno Not Want Aki To Use His Sword in Chainsaw Man?
