Jujutsu Kaisen – Why did Gojo kill Geto?
Suguru Geto has been the primary antagonist within the main Jujutsu Kaisen series and prequel Jujutsu Kaisen Movie 0. However, those that read the manga will know that Geto was one of Gojo’s friends before this. Anime enthusiasts will see more of Geto and Gojo in action in Season 2, which will cover Gojo’s Past Arc.
If you haven’t watched the Jujutsu Kaisen Movie 0, then you may not have known that Gojo was the one that killed Geto after the battle with Yuta. But why is this, and why did Geto become the story’s antagonist? Let’s clear up some facts first.
Gojo’s Past Arc
Geto started to lose his way after Riko was killed and taken by Toji. However, Gojo came to the rescue and was able to retrieve Riko’s body. After this, Getoslowly lost his faith in humanity, questioning why he was undergoing rigorous training. (Although, at first, we suspect it is due to feeling slightly inferior to Gojo’s cursed technique. However, Geto is as equally strong in his own right.)
The straw that broke the camel’s back was when Getomets Yu Haibara. But before this, Geto was still on the side of good and wanted to stop curses from being created. Unfortunately, Yu is soon killed on a mission, and Geto is sent on a mission to a village.
After discovering the village wants to kill two young shamans, Geto takes the girls and massacres the entire village. Soon after, Geto joins the Star Religious group and plans to kill all non-shamans. His hatred for them grew so much that he began to refer to them as monkeys.
Cursed Child Arc
Soon after joining the Star Religious group, Geto learns of the special-class spirit Rika and becomes intrigued. After learning more about it and its power, Geto makes his desire known and fights Yuta for it. However, he retreats once the battle climaxes, and Geto loses an arm.
Unfortunately for him, Gojo intercepted him, in which Gojo did kill Geto. Although Geto and Gojo had been close friends before this, Geto’s extreme views could not be ignored by Gojo. Ultimately, this is what leads Gojo to kill Geto. To prevent the deaths of civilians and stop Geto’s reign of terror. This is the last we see of the original Geto, as Kenjaku soon possesses Geto’s body.
