Psycho-Pass was first aired on October 12, 2012, and produced by Production I.G. This story follows Akane, a rookie member of the Criminal Investigation Department. Psycho-Pass takes place in a cyberpunk-like dystopian Japan where the Sibyl System rules everything. This system measures a person’s propensity toward criminal intent based on the color of their measurement; individuals can also be imprisoned or immediately blown into pieces. This is a great series to watch if you enjoy psychological anime and the understanding of the mind and how it can be interpreted.

Zetsuen no Tempest, also known as Blast of Tempest: The Civilization Blaster, was first aired on October 5, 2012, with 24 episodes to its name. This is an anime about revenge with hints of insanity and madness. Zetsuen no Tempest revolves around Fuwa Mahiro, whose family had been murdered before the show’s beginning. Determined to find their killer, although primarily for his step-sister Fuwa Aika’s sake, he vows to find the culprit with the help of his best friend Takigawa Yoshino and Kusaribe Hakaze, the leader of the Kusaribe Clan. The series holds many twists and turns as the protagonist tries to find the reason for Aika’s death, though it will surely keep you on your toes!

Steins;Gate was first aired on April 6, 2011, and if you’re looking for a mad scientist Okabe Rintarou is your man! Steins;Gate can be slightly confusing at the start of the anime if you aren’t keeping up with the show. The entirety of the show is about Time Travel, and somehow Okabe gets this to work, only at a cost. While this series can slightly be seen as a slice of life, considering how many times nothing is happening, the story primarily revolves around the death of Okabe’s childhood friend Mayuri. If you’re looking for a niche mad scientist anime, Steins;Gate is the show for you.
